The downside of the bad economy right now is that lots of people are cutting back on what they buy for new ski and snowboard equipment this year, especially if they have lost or are worried about losing their jobs. The upside is, lots of crazy deals are to be had right now, especially with all the upcoming holiday sales, not to mention the usual blowouts of last year's gear. Combine that with tons of online coupon deals, special sales and giveaways (one example: Outdoor Diva's RIDE FREE! giveawa…

Hey girls! Welcome to winter 2009-2010! Are you ready? me neither! but I'm excited!
First, apologies that I'd let this site slip a little between other duties and general life drama getting in the way. That meant some spammers hit us when we weren't looking - stupid boys! Why would they possibly think we'd be interested in anxiety pills and stress free living via medication? ::rollseyes::
Anyway, I have changed settings on the site to alert me to review any blog posts before they go live. So,…

Congrats to our girls who opened up the 2009 mountain biking season out in Monterey, California - where the annual cycling event starts with much fanfare and anticipation.
Several of our Divas were out in full force, racing at the top levels of competition (PRO & Cat 1) in their respective age groups, here's a quick look at the results:

Last month, I featured member
Jackie Baker, with the intention of sharing a few more details about her crazy life, which got a little delayed by the craziness of the holidays. No matter, because now is the perfect time to dish the dirt on this downhilling biker chick, and share a bit about the online store she runs,
Freeride Foundation, which is filled with mtb clothing and ac…

This contest is especially made for all you ladies who don't live in Utah~ though I'm sure those of us who live right below the 'Bird wouldn't mind the 4 nights at the Cliff Lodge plus spa treatments! We just don't need the roundtrip airfare for two:) If any divas win, I'm sure a few locals could meet up with you at one of the resorts or apres ski.
Trip prize package includes:

Now that the holidays have passed, and we've all had a few days to test out (hopefully) all the goodies that we got under the tree - do you have any positive or negative comments about any new clothes and outdoor gear you got as gifts?
So far, I've only tested my Burton Shants & and a Burton Dryfit top - which I was pretty impressed with after snowshoeing the other day - sweating hard and it was wicking away pretty well. I've never had any Burton baselayers before, so I'm pretty excited tha…

I've been shouting this from the rooftops just because it's a really cool marketing idea, Rossi earns points just for that. But we'll see in actuality how easy it is to win something. The idea is you earn points just for using their special search feature (uses Ask.com results + Google ads) and inviting friends to play.
The cheapest prize is a sticker for 25 points, and gift cards start at 80 points. Goggles, helmets and accessory bags from Rossi range from 400-1200 points, but an iPhone goes f…

I finally created an official
DH Divas YouTube Channel, so we can tag our favorite vids from the web, but more importantly - easily upload our own skiing/riding videos to share here. (it's super simple to add a YouTube Video just by plugging in the embed code here on downhill-divas.org). Then we'll add them to the DH Divas YouTube Channel.
Ideally, I'd love to have a couple of contests (with free gea…

I don't usually buy passes to Alta Ski Resort, since we're mostly at Brighton or Solitude, butAlta is usually the place we just hike up in early season, as you can see from this
picture taken at Alta on November 8th.
Being the gear whores we are, my husband & I had already started a pile of ski and snowboard jackets to give away and/or sell for a few bucks. Some jackets are worth somethin…

Here in Utah that is! It snowed a little off and on here in the valley yesterday, but this morning I rolled over and woke up to see the tree outside my window covered in white fluff. It's definitely our first major dump of the year, and I almost don't even want to check to see how much the resorts got, because right now I'm just enjoying the shift to winter, which I've been waiting for.
Of course, like every year, I'm not really ready for ski season fitness wise, so I'll have to make up for los…

So I'm in the process of writing an article for another publication about girlfriends' getaways and more specifically I'm including some details about women's only sports camps. No matter what the discipline or special focus of the camps are, they seem to have a common thread in terms of what advantages they offer. Overall, I'm a big proponent of women's only lessons, trips and camps - they're good for so many reasons. I've also had a blast at a couple of things I've attended for women only and…

In case you missed it, Fanhouse recently did a short story (
Kimber, the Outdoor Adrenaline Junkie) on one of our newest and favorite divas, Kimber Gabryszak, so I felt it fitting to feature her right off the bat. Kimber is a pro mountain bike racer for the Velo Bella team, a nationally ranked skeleton racer (you know, the crazy-ass sport of sliding down an iced track head first at 80 mph) and a part-time,…

I have a love / hate relationship with this time of year. I have the feeling some of you might know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, I love all the things about fall - the changing leaves, crisp autumn air, pumpkin flavored beer or fresh apple cider and generally warm and fuzzy thoughts about growing up in New England, where we have really great fall weather.
But it's also bittersweet, because it means bike season is going away, and overall, I had a pretty good bike season, with a shiny new fre…
