Women Who Love Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding & Freeride Mountain Biking

Earlier today, the women's camp article I said I'd been working on, among others, were published on Travelmuse.com, in their 2008 Ski Issue:

I had a total of five pages featured in this issue:
  1. Girlfriend Getaway: Women’s Ski Camps
  2. Great Getaways for Women’s Ski and Snowboard Camps
  3. Tips to Avoid Injuries on the Slopes
  4. How To Prevent Altitude Sickness
  5. Minimize Family Drama on the Slopes

These are the first "real" travel/ski freelance articles I've written in a long time, so that alone is pretty exciting. They're not exactly earth-shattering, Pulitzer Prize winning articles, but the audience is quite different over there compared to the members here, so take the content for what it's worth. Besides, I figure any article that gets women excited about skiing/riding is worth the time to write.

For the women's camp article, I was frantically searching around at the last second when the editors asked for quotes from other women I knew who'd attended similar camps. Two DH Divas, TracyP and Connie totally stepped up to the plate and provided some great quotes, but the editors didn't end up using them after all!

Connie though I think summed up what's maybe more appropriate to the crew of aggressive athletes and gravity sport lovers that hang out here, so I'll post it for inspiration:

"For me, there is always something special about just being able to ski with women who truly excel at the sport. Don't get me wrong - I've learned a LOT from a number of amazing male coaches over the years, but sometimes learning from other women just mentally makes skills seem more realistic and attainable. Not to mention, it's always helpful to hear what the learning process was like for them and what obstacles they faced and how they overcame them to get to where they are today. And if nothing else - it's always fun to spend time skiing and getting to know more women who love the sport as much as you do!"

As I said, excuse the moment of shameless self-promotion, but remember that one of the reasons I started this site is because ultimately I want all the women who are members here to use it as a platform to boast their own personal goals and accomplishments.

After all, you all are enormously talented athletically, intellectually and professionally in your own right, and everyone here has got some great things to be proud of, so show it off and shout it from the rooftops!
